Equipment
Most equipment is available to any character who can afford it. Items are available in all major cities of modern worlds and most of the minor cities as well. On frontier worlds, high-tech equipment is rare of even nonexixtent. If technology is available on newly colonized worlds, its price can be as high as three times the listed value. The DM will set prices for such situations.
Some equipment is not available for general sale, including all martial firearms and all armor heavier than light. These are military-grade items that cannot simply be bought at the mall. Characters will need to establish contacts to acquire such items. However, as a general rule, the DM should allow starting characters to purchase any weapons, armor, and equipment they can afford with their starting funds. This represents the goods that the characters have acquired in their past.
Note that it is generally not illegal to own or even carry military-grade weapons and armor on every world, those items are simply not available for general sale. Again, it is up to the DM to establish the legality of such goods on any given world.
Wealth and Money
The credit (cr) is the standard currency for play. In major cities of all modern worlds, almost all legitimate transactions are completed electronically. Numbers are passed from bank account to bank account and from credit chip to datpad; no physical currency changes hands. On less technological worlds, paper currency and coins are still used.
Paper currency is available in denominations of 1, 10, 100, and 1,000 cr. Two coins are available: the dek, a tenth of a credit, and the cent, a hundredth of a credit. This currency easily converts to the gold, silver, and copper standard of the SRD, as shown in the table below.
| Cent | Dek | CP | SP | GP | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Credit (cr) = | 100 | 10 | 100 | 10 | 1 |
| Dek = | 10 | 1 | 10 | 1 | 1/10 |
| Cent = | 1 | 1/10 | 1 | 1/10 | 1/100 |
All equipment listings in the SRD are available for purchase, although many will be considered primitive by modern standards. New items will seem expensive in comparison.
